I’ll take the high road, thank you.

If one of the goals of this tour is to find my next home, I can check that one off the list. The Scotland countryside completely enchanted me from start to finish, and is still in my dreams. The city of Edinburgh that I based myself in actually reminded me a great deal of San Francisco — hilly, Edwardian, by the sea, large park in the center — only everything about Edinburgh was older, steeper, wilder, grander. On day three of my stay there I confidently stolled into the University of Edinburgh admissions office to ask how soon they could transfer me and my associates degree in. I slumped out about five minutes later, once I discovered that my American education was so worthless to them, I needed to take their high school courses before I could even apply, and even then it would be for year 1, not the the year 3 towards a bachelors that I should be at. So much for that idea. You’ve won this round, Scotland…

I think this is my favorite photo story yet. It’s jaw-droppingly gorgeous. The tree stump photo alone is a marvel.
Sorry to hear about your encounter with the cold water of EU education standards. The most importan thing I learned while studying abroad was not to take no for an answer!
Thank you so much! I wouldn’t believe the photos were real myself if I hadn’t been there. Where did you study abroad? I like this not taking no for an answer tactic — it’s definitely one of my weaknesses. Let’s talk more =)
