PARIS GUIDE: PAIN DE SUCRE

Where better to start off my sweet week of blogging than in the Marais? This trendy neighborhood has more than its fair share of bakeries and pretty people alike, and the little cafe tables hugging the sidewalk outside Pain de Sucre is a perfect spot to people watch. I honestly think this bakery has the most beautiful cakes (gâteau — en français) I’ve ever seen. I can’t stand ruining such a work of art, and so I usually just take in the eye candy and order the macarons instead — beautiful in their own right, but easier for me to justify eating! Their macarons are really top notch; they might be tied with Pierre Herme as my favorite that I’ve tried so far. Particularly the framboise — a flavor I’ve become obsessed with recently. Next to the patisserie there’s also a bakery offering savory choices. Has anyone else tried Pain de Sucre yet?
